LIVERPOOL JUNE-JULY 2014

Get ready for IFB 2014 with FREE* WorldHost and Language training now!

In preparation for IFB 2014 and to help local businesses in the tourism, hospitality, leisure, and passenger transport sectors gain a competitive edge, new training is now available at little or no cost within the Liverpool City Region

A consortium of local businesses, led by Merseytravel (and in partnership with VisitLiverpool and Liverpool ONE), have secured funding from the Skills for Growth Bank for WorldHost customer service training and language short-courses (aimed at beginners).

This year, in addition to IFB 2014, the Liverpool city region will host a number of other international events, including the Open Golf Championship, the Liverpool International Music Festival, the Mersey River Festival, and Liverpool Biennial. We are also set to see a huge increase in the number of international cruise liners calling at the cruise terminal in the heart of the city.

It is estimated that these events will bring an additional 2.5 million visitors to the region, many of whom will be using local transport, buying local products, and staying in local accommodation. Customer facing staff will play a vital part in the meeting and greeting of visitors, as well as ensuring that they enjoy their time in the city region, so by improving their skills and confidence we can ensure visitors leave with a lasting and positive impression.

WorldHost Training

WorldHost is a training package accredited by People1st (the Sector Skills Council) and was cited as being highly effective in supporting the skills of staff at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

WorldHost courses show delegates how to build repeat business by delivering a warm welcome and impeccable customer service to visitors. Details of the various courses can be found at WorldHost training.

A specially developed Ambassador module is also available, which contains information to help delegates gain an appreciation and understanding of the special events that will take place right across the city region in 2014.

Language Courses

With the eyes of the world on the host city of Liverpool, we must ensure that all visitors are welcomed in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner. We must also demonstrate that we can welcome visitors from all over the world, and in their own language whenever possible.

We are offering frontline staff working in the visitor economy sector throughout the Liverpool city region the opportunity to develop their meet-and-greet skills in a number of different languages through the provision of several (short) language courses.

We have secured funding from the Skills for Growth Bank that allows us to subsidise these courses.

We aim to improve the welcome offered to international visitors by giving the staff that they will meet the confidence to say a few words in the visitor’s language. Whilst a short course is unlikely to enable the staff member to converse fluently in another language, we hope they will be encouraged to continue to develop their language skills beyond this particular programme.
