Chamber Concerts

3rd June - 13th July, St George's Hall Concert Room

One of the early classical highlights for June and July is the internationally acclaimed Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra presenting a season of concerts in the glorious setting of the City’s St. George’s Hall Concert Room whilst their iconic home Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is closed for a major refurbishment.

Chief Conductor Vasily Petrenko opens the season with Summertime Strauss (3 June), while Sunday Serenade (22 June) is a showcase for the string players of the Orchestra, led by joint leader, James Clark.  The wind players of the Orchestra, directed by its Principal Oboe, Jonathan Small are in the spotlight for Midweek Mozart (25 June).

Macedonian pianist Simon Trpceski is soloist and directs the Orchestra from the piano in a concert that includes Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 (15 June), and he gives two chamber music recitals of music by Brahms, Ravel and Poulenc (7 June); and an all-Brahms programme (10 June), joined by James Clark (violin) and  the Orchestra’s Principal Cello, Jonathan Aasgaard.

Mozart’s final opera Così fan tutte (9, 11, 13 July) with singers from European Opera Centreis perfectly suited to the beautiful setting of the Concert Room.

Vasily Petrenko takes up the baton again for Cathedral Classics in the magnificent setting of Liverpool Cathedral (17 June)  in a concert including Vaughan Williams  Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, Wagner’s Overture to Tannhäuser and Poulenc’s Organ Concerto performed by the Cathedral’s organist Ian Tracey.

After the concert, join Vasily Petrenko and musicians from the Orchestra in the Well of the Cathedral for complimentary drinks.
