If you love shopping, you’ll fit in well here; Liverpudlians like to look good and set trends. Shoppers are spoilt for choice between gleaming new city-centre department stores, boutique arcades, bohemian streets and farmers’ markets.

Right in the heart of the city, Liverpool ONE is the huge open-air shopping district featuring more than 160 famous high street and designer names. Peter’s Lane is home to brands such as Whistles, Radley, Reiss, Hobbs, The Kooples, Karen Millen and Flannels as well as the only Beauty Bazaar Harvey Nichols in the country. And if you’ve shopped until you’ve dropped, the award-winning Chavasse Park is the perfect place for a spot of sunbathing.

The exclusive Met Quarter is the place to find select fashion and beauty outlets such as Gieves & Hawkes, Hugo Boss, MAC and Armani Exchange while ultra-fashionable Cavern Walks is home to the Vivienne Westwood store and famed designer boutique Cricket, as well as leading menswear at Weavers Door.

Lonely Planet, no less, rated Bold Street as one of the best shopping streets in the country, and it’s easy to see why. With independent stores selling everything from world foods to funky clothes to records to art, it’s well worth spending a couple of hours browsing.

Outside of the city Southport is home to the elegant Lord Street, with its broad tree-lined avenue and covered arcades, while Wirral has clusters of home-grown stores and prides itself on its local produce, showcased at regular farmers markets.
